Millwall remain in dire trouble near the bottom of League One after playing out a dire 0-0 draw at home to mid-table Huddersfield and were booed off the pitch by their fans.

Willie Donachie's side are in desperate need of points as they try to avoid a second successive relegation, but on this showing still have a lot of work to do.

Daren Byfield came closest to scoring late on when he found a yard of space in the box and flicked the ball over the head of Huddersfield keeper Matt Glennon, only to see his effort hacked off the line by Martin McIntosh.

The first half provided little to get the crowd going as both teams took time settle down.

The closest either side got to a goal in an unremarkable first 45 minutes was an effort from Huddersfield's Mark Hudson that found the back of the net, but the midfielder was flagged offside very early by the assistant referee.

Charlie Lee impressed for the home side in central midfield with his excellent touches, but as his home side struggled, on loan youngster became increasingly frustrated and resorted to long-range efforts.

The Millwall manager tried to shake things up after the break by introducing Filipe Morais for the ineffective Chris Zebroski at half-time.

His side looked far more comfortable playing a conventional 4-4-2 and it almost paid dividends straight away.

Chris Hackett burst down the right to and intelligently cut the ball back to Ben May who made yard of space for himself in the box with an excellent drag back before firing the ball wide of the post.

The home side started to dominate the game in a purple patch at the start of the second half and forced a succession of corners but found the well-organised Huddersfield defence hard to break down.

As both sides battled to gain control of the midfield, referee Clive Penson did well to keep a lid on a game that threatened to boil over.
