Bristol City boss Gary Johnson saw his first wish of the week fulfilled when Millwall were taken to extra-time in the FA Cup. His second wish for a ninth home win came true thanks to a Scott Murray goal after just 15 seconds.
More than half the Lions fans missed that; they arrived for the usual 3pm start, but this one kicked off at 2pm on police orders.
They were in time though to see their side's spirited fightback as manager Willie Donachie switched his formation to get an extra man up front.
That decision hardly pleased Filipe Morais, a week after scoring his first ever goal, but the sacrifice after half an hour sparked an enthralling open battle for the result.
Between them these sides have collected more cards than any other two in League One, but referee Mr Shoebridge had to hoist just two yellows, both late on for City as taut nerves twanged.
Victory moved City up into second place while it was only Millwall's second defeat in nine starts.
They had not given away a goal in their last four games and were hardly prepared for the Murray effort which was to strike them down.
City kicked off and Alex Russell emerged from a slight skirmish on the Millwall edge of the circle to slip the ball past central defender Paul Robinson.
Murray was in between him and Charlie Lee in a flash to rocket a right-footed shot past Lenny Pidgeley.
When Millwall recovered, Darren Byfield fired off a rather tame shot but it was the accuracy and flight of Chris Hackett's free-kick which brought his side into the game, the second of them drawing a flying save from a Marc Phillips header.
Adriano Basso in City's goal was often in action after this, but at the other end Pidgeley made a diving save to turn away a long-range shot from Jamie McAllister.
Soon after Enoch Showunmi saw his header booted off the line to go with an earlier effort from a short corner which struck the crossbar.
The closest Millwall came to equalising was with a Hackett free-kick on 66 minutes, which flew past Basso's right post while he was in mid-air, and then right at the death a sharp effort from Marvin Elliott was turned away for a corner.
