Sheringham, who recently lost his league goalscoring record to Neil Harris, had already been approached by Millwall Football Club earlier in the season and one of the club's board members renewed their interest after the former England striker sat out West Ham's 4-3 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
However, despite the club's interest, manager Willie Donachie isn't that keen on bringing Sheringham back to The Den, for the simple reason that he has enough headaches up front trying to accommodate the in-form Darren Byfield, Harris and Poul Hubertz without trying to make room for a player fast approaching his pension.
The club are keeping track on Darren Currie, however, and are still looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the season run-in, with a play-off spot still a realistic option.
