Savage, who joined The Lions on a short-term contract last season, is believed to have already held talks with Rovers boss Ronnie Moore, who is after a replacement for Calvin Zola.
The rumour has fuelled speculation that Millwall boss Kenny Jackett has already lined up former striker Mark McCammon, although ex-Watford star Gifton Noel-Williams has also been linked with a move to The Den.
