The approach for the 22-year-old midfielder, who is currently having talks with Blackburn Rovers, was confirmed by assistant Pompey boss Jim Smith, who admitted that the South Coast side have been keeping tabs on the player for the past few months.
Rovers had been hopeful of concluding a deal with Millwall by Monday, when manager Graeme Souness returns to the club from their pre-season tour of America.
