The game, which took place last October, was marred by trouble when Liverpool fans threw chairs and coins at the home fans and attempted to invade the pitch. A handful of fans, from both teams, were arrested on the night but no arrests were made for racist chanting. Indeed, the police later confirmed that had received no complaits either.
However, following a malicious email campaign by Liverpool fans - some of whom later admitted that they weren't even at the game - and despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary from the Metropolitan Police, the media and Liverpool Football Club, the FA decided to charge The Lions with racist chanting.
The club was originally fined and threatened with ground closure. This punishment has now been overturned.
