Millwall open up Dichio dialogue

West Bromwich Albion and Millwall are locked in talks in an attempt to thrash out a deal for Baggies striker Daniele Dichio which will satisfy both parties.

The ex-Sunderland and Sampdoria man is wanted by the Lions following a terrific loan spell which saw the player hit five goals in three games.

Dichio has indicated that he would like to move back to the capital and although his contract is due to expire this summer, West Brom are looking to secure a deal for the player who is considered to be surplus to requirements in the Midlands.

Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace confirmed he had spoken to Millwall counterpart Theo Paphitis.

"Danny's loan has now finished and a decision will be made as to what can happen," said Peace.

"There is on-going discussion and we hope we can come to an agreement that will suit all concerned parties."

The main stumbling block appears to be money. West Brom are rumoured to want £750,000 for the player but Millwall are not to prepared to pay such a price for someone who is essentially a reserve team player at the Hawthorns.

Dichio has scored 18 goals for the Baggies over 72 appearances, since arriving at the club in a £1.2m deal in November 2001 but as yet to hit the target for West Brom this season. However, the player feels he is being priced out of a move to The Den.

The 29-year-old said: 'I was flabbergasted at the figure. I have only got five months left on my contract. I am seventh in line at West Brom, so to ask for that amount is a kick in the teeth.

'A bit of honesty and loyalty would have been appreciated after they let me come down here on loan.'
