Speaking to The Sun, McGhee revealed that he has no axe to grind against the club and will be cheering the side he left five months ago as they go in search of their first ever major Cup Final.
“I’m convinced Millwall will beat Sunderland and nobody would deserve to play in a final more than Neil." said McGhee. “He showed immense courage and determination to come back and actually returned too soon because he was so desperate to prove to himself that he could play professional football again."
“It would be great for him to play in a great occasion like an FA Cup final. And I cannot imagine any way Millwall will not win this semi-final. "
“With the creative players they have like Timmy Cahill and Paul Ifill, they should be too strong for Sunderland.”
Elsewhere, Matty Lawrence has thanked Dennis Wise for rescuing his Millwall career.
Lawrence, who found himself out of favour with McGhee, has been an ever-present in The Lions' starting line-up since Wise took over and has formed a formidable partnership in the centre of defence with Darren Ward.
"I knew I was on the way out when Mark was in charge but I don't hold that against him," said Lawrence. "That's just the way football is and I didn't figure in his plans."
"When Dennis tooker over he called me up and played me at centre-half and I've made the most of my chance."
