The only goal of the game came in the second half when Dennis Wise headed home from a corner but manager Mark McGhee will take encouragement from the result, despite only fielding one recognised striker.
With Neil Harris, Mark McCammon and Richard Sadlier out injured, The Lions handed a full debut to teenage sensation Moses Ashikodi and he was joined up front by emergency replacement Paul Ifill. Harris should be back for the game against Southampton on Sunday but both McCammon and Sadlier are doubts for the opening match of the season against Wigan Athletic.
