Sky Sports has announced that the Football Association are to investigate the incidents of missle-throwing that interrupted yesterday's game between Millwall and West Ham United.

A number of coins and a mobile phone were hurled by the Hammers fans in the away end during The Lions' 1-0 win over their East London neighbours.

Millwall boss Dennis Wise was the main target for much of the game and at one point referee Peter Walton had to stop the match after one particularly ferocious attack as Wise prepared to take a corner. Goalkeeper Graham Stack also cam under fire from the West Ham fans who vented their frustrations by showering the Millwall goalkeeper with scores of coins.

Ref Walton has indicated he would mention the problems in his report. However, because the trouble took place at The Den rather than Upton Park it will be difficult for them to take any meaningful action against West Ham United.

This is not the first time Hammers fans have caused trouble at Zampa Road. Earlier this year they ripped up a "Kick Racism Out of Football" banner and clashed with police after seeing their side lose 4-1 to The Lions.
