Millwall Football Club's bid to release a Cup Final record been blocked by a row over copyright.

The club had intended to release a tribute to player-manager Dennis Wise, with both players and fans singing a modified version of the popular chant currently heard at The Den to the tune of Dean Martin's 'Volare'.

But music giant EMI, who own the rights to the song, has refused to grant permission to use it.

"We're hopeful they will change their minds but they haven't done so yet," said the club's chief executive Ken Brown.

"We're considering all our options and whether there is enough time to record another song."

An EMI spokesman said no decision had been made on whether the song could be used or not but are known to be unhappy about the version Millwall intend to release.

Volare has been used by Arsenal fans to sing the praises of captain Patrick Vieira. But the Lions' version refers to Wisey's clash with former Leicester team-mate Callum Davidson, who fractured his cheekbone during an incident on a pre-season tour.
