Speaking to the club's official site, manager Colin Lee explained the thinking behind the decision.
"We've been checking Don's fitness because he hasn't played regular football for a while," said Lee. "And we've decided to give him a chance by making him an offer of a short-term contract.
"If that's acceptable to Don, he'll be having his medical in the morning and providing there's not a problem with that he'll be signing on Friday."
Lee also revealed that Millwall were on the look-out for a new goalkeeper.
"We also have to get an experienced keeper in as back-up for Andy Marshall, and we're close to doing that as well so hopefully we'll have that done in time for the weekend as well.
"If we can get these two done, it gives us something to build on and we can concentrate on improving the squad further. We're not just planning for Leeds but looking further forward. We'll continue to look for players, and particularly a couple of experienced ones to help the younger players along."
