"We were under a lot of pressure," said Spackman, "but tonight they can go home with their heads held high."
"I didn't think the goal was going to come but the players kept on working at it and in the end they got the reward their efforts deserved.
"I was pleased for big Poul to come off the bench and score the winner but overall I was pleased that we defended much better and got things sorted out in the middle of the park.
"It was a fantastic team performance and it needed to be because teams are going to make life very difficult for you in this League and you have to match them. The players were right up for it, having worked hard all week, and I thought the crowd were excellent and gave them great support."
