The veteran centre half had expected to take it easy last season coaching the reserves and only playing when called upon, but ended up making 47 appearances and winning the club's Player of the Year award in the process.
The 38-year-old, who had some reservations about coming to The Den after beginning his career with Crystal Palace, spoke of his delight on the club's website.
"I'm delighted to be staying here," said Shaw. "I thoroughly enjoyed last year and hope the next 12 months are even better."
