A Tale of Two Friendlies

The Lions lost the second game of their pre-season tour of Canada with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the national side.

The home side went ahead at the Swangard Stadium in under two minutes, thanks to a goal from Olivier Occean and things went from bad to worse when Millwall went down to ten men minutes later when skipper Matt Lawrence was sent off for stamping.

Loan signing kGraham Stack was outstanding throughout the game, making several superb saves to keep Canada's lead to just one goal and later went up front as the Lions searched for an equaliser.

Back home, a Millwall XI featuring Tim Cahill and Mark McCammon were held to a goal-less draw by Honchurch in a behind-closed doors friendly. The game also saw the return of Ben May, who spent the whole of last season on loan to Brentford.

Despite The Lions failure to score, coach Alan McCleary remained upbeat.

"We played some good football and while we had a few chances, we just couldn't find the back of the net. I'm not too worried about that though.

"The lads played well and at the moment it's just a matter of fitness. We were a bit limited with numbers with the majority of the senior boys out in Canada, but for those who have remained behind, it was good to see most of them come through a full 90 minutes.

"It was great for some of the younger lads to play with more experienced players. Anton Robinson and Tim Clancy put in some solid performances and worked hard."
